Girls Active Roadshow

On Friday 23rd October more than 160 Year 10 and 11 girls took part in a Girls Active Roadshow that included participation in Boxercise, Yoga, Rowing, Trampolining and Yoga.  Girls Active has been introduced in the school to inspire currently non-participating girls to take part in sustainable sport.  It is hoped that trough trying out some of these sports, they will be motivated to take part for their personal development, health and overall wellbeing.

The activites were led by local coaches and teachers in attempt to create a choice of alternate activity.  After experiencing the activities, students were encouraged to make a choice and apply to become part of the girls active team.  Girls will benefit from taking part in exciting sports after school each week as well as contribute to challenging issues within PE to reduce the dropout of teenage girls in sport.

The day was an absolute success with a tremendous change in attidude from when they first walked into the room saying "I'm not doing any PE today" to "when do I need to return my application form" and " Boxercise is so cool!".

I'm really pleased with the outcome of the event and feel positive that the programme will make a difference to girls perception of PE.  Sessions will begin with Trampolining this term and continue to Pilates.  We hope to develop the programme accross Secondary Schools in the partnership after Christmas so girls, GET INSPIRED!
